Background
A raw water project along Colorado’s Highway 550 required durable underground pipeline crossings at two key locations. The 16-inch steel pipelines, buried beneath the roadway, would face risk of corrosion. Ensuring the long-term performance of these lines was critical due to the difficulty and cost of future access beneath the highway.
Solution Implementation
United Pipeline Systems was brought in to apply its Tite Liner® solution, a proven internal lining system designed to protect steel pipelines in demanding environments. Two road bores — measuring approximately 400 and 600 feet in length — were internally lined with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to guard against internal corrosion and extend pipeline life.
This trenchless rehabilitation approach provided a seamless protective barrier inside the steel host pipe while maintaining the structural strength required for highway installations.
Results
Long-Term Protection: The Tite Liner® system shields the steel pipe from abrasion and corrosion, reducing maintenance needs.
Minimal Disruption: Lining was completed with no impact to the highway above, preserving road integrity and traffic flow.
Proven Technology: Tite Liner® continues to offer clients a reliable, field-tested solution for high-risk underground crossings.
